# Rate limits

> How many requests you can make, which headers report your usage and how to back off.

Rate limits protect the API for everyone. Limits apply per API key.

## Limits by plan

| Plan | Requests per minute | Burst |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free | 60 | 20 |
| Pro | 600 | 100 |
| Business | 3,000 | 500 |

## Response headers

YAML

```
X-RateLimit-Limit: 600
X-RateLimit-Remaining: 587
X-RateLimit-Reset: 1760352000
```

## Handling 429 responses

When you exceed a limit, the API returns `429 Too Many Requests` with a `Retry-After` header. Wait that many seconds, then retry with exponential backoff.
