# Enable two-factor authentication

> Protect your account with an authenticator app or a hardware security key.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step when you sign in. We strongly recommend it for every account that can deploy.

## Turn on 2FA

1. Open **Account → Security**.
2. Click **Enable two-factor authentication**.
3. Scan the QR code with 1Password, Authy or Google Authenticator.
4. Enter the six-digit code and save your recovery codes somewhere safe.

## Security keys

You can also register a YubiKey or a passkey on your phone or laptop. Security keys cannot be phished, so they are the safest option.

## Require 2FA for the whole workspace

Owners can require 2FA under **Settings → Security**. Members without it are asked to set it up the next time they sign in.
